Racism Group Joins New Scots Alliance
A North-East anti-racism group has joined a new alliance to step up the fight against discrimination.
Grampian Racial Equality Council and three other parts of Scotland have formed the Scottish Alliance of Regional Equality Councils (SAREC).
The new organisation, formed after years of negotiations, was officially launched at the Scottish Parliament yesterday.
About 60 representatives from all four councils attended a reception organised by Aberdeen Central Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald.
SAREC chairman Shami Khan said: “Our focus us now to build lasting and positive links between all these groups so we can effectively promote good community relations and tackle discrimination.”
Mr Macdonald, who worked for Grampian Racial Equality Council before becoming a MSP, said he was extremely pleased that the alliance has finally been formed.
